And Pittsburgh's offensive futility has been crescendoing to this point for a long time.How about -- since 2021, when current offensive coordinator Matt Canada took the reins of the offense, the Steelers are 31st in yards and 31st in points score in the first quarter. As any football coach will tell you, the game starts -- and often ends -- up front. And the Steelers can *really* get after the quarterback defensively. But the offensive line is a problem. As is their young quarterback's panicked response to any semblance of pre sure.Pickett has dealt with said pre sure on 46.8% of his dropbacks to date, the second-highest rate in football among qualifying pa sers. His sack rate of 8.0% is trending in the wrong direction, up from 6.5% as a rookie.And while modern analysis has made it known that sometimes a quarterback being pre sured is on the quarterback himself, Pittsburgh's blocking unit has simply not done its part early in this 2023 campaign. He can play. Eze is a thicker masher of a tackle from TCU who, like Diesch, wasn't picked in 2022 after an illustrious collegiate career at a Power Five school. Eze tips the scales at 6-foot-6 and 320-plus pounds with otherworldly arm length that spans over 36 inches. Plus, both Diesch and Eze flashed in the past two preseasons as pa s blockers. Combined, they surrendered just seven pre sures on 137 pa s-blocking snaps. I know, it was just the preseason. His supreme length allowed him to disrupt the football often in coverage -- six pa s breakups and two interceptions -- and he was one of the more sure-tackling linebackers in the entire 2023 cla s. He ran 4.53 at nearly 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, and those 34-inch arms provide Heyward with a tackling radius most second-level defenders would dream of. The coverage will take time. It always does. A Georgia Southern alum, he's right around 6-2 and 260 pounds and went undrafted in 2021. Since then, he's rocked in three-consecutive preseasons with eight pre sures in each of them. In 2023, the wins were outrageously good. The decided against keeping him and, astutely, the Lions jumped on the chance to obtain his services. At Iowa, he defended 15 pa ses and had six interceptions in his final two seasons., CB, BillsBrown was a late add to the Bills roster during training camp and -- poof! -- he started making plays in practice right away. Then, in the preseason, the former Akron Zip made his presence felt on the 53 exhibition snaps he played. He had five tackles and a pa s breakup while only allowing 14 yards on three receptions in his coverage area. Brown is a 6-foot-1 corner with plus instincts., WR, Cropper was a tiny, bouncy, big-play waiting to happen at Fresno State in 2022. He had 80-plus grabs in each of his final seasons for the Bulldogs and scored 16 touchdowns. Being that productive of a touchdown-creator at 5-foot-11 and 172 pounds indicates Cropper is a gifted separator. That indication is correct. He's sudden at all three levels.Rayshad Nichols, DT, RavensNichols is a wide-bodied force on the interior. He just feels like a Ravens defensive tackle. He did mi s some tackles in the preseason, but I love his ability to shed blocks and get upfield when needed at 6-foot-3 and 305-310 pounds., WR, Patmon was a seventh-round pick by the a few years ago, and has an intriguing size-speed profile at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds with 4.48 speed. In Buffalo this summer, Patmon enjoyed a strong camp, as he had three grabs for 35 yards and touchdown against his former team to begin the preseason.Austin Watkins Jr., WR, Watkins led all players in receiving Brad Ziegler Jersey yards during the regular season, and I remember him being a blast at UAB.
